The Next "real" Super Hero

The next super hero to break Joseph William Kittinger's records. Will hopefully be Felix Baumgartner. A guy who lives on the edge and lives by the words "everyone has limits - not everyone accepts them"

With a impressive resume of B.A.S.E jumping records to his name and his military background. He has the "right stuff" to do the job.

Follow Felix on his Blog here and see all his jumping antics on YouTube here

The First "real" Super Hero

August the16th 1960 was the day Joseph William Kittinger jumped out of his helium filled balloon at 102 000ft for a ride of his life and setting four world records at the same time. They were...
The fastest free fall - 982kph/614mph, the longest free fall - 4min 36secs, the highest parachute jump at 120 800ft and the highest manned balloon flight at 102 800ft. That has now been broken by a height of 113 740ft.

Born in 1928, Joe became a test pilot flying experimental jets and then becoming a guinea pig for high altitude experimental tests. Joe was involved in the Manhigh and Excelsior projects that went on to set the foundations for future space missions.

Joe, then went on to volunteer for the Vietnam War. He did three tours as a squadron commander before being shot down and becoming a POW for a year!

Joe didn't stop there. In 1983 he set the distance record of 2000miles/3200km in a 1000 cubic meter helium balloon. Then the following year he became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic in a helium balloon.

As you can see with a impressive resume like this. He is definitely not your average Joe!

Now he's on the Red Bull Stratos Project. Teaching and training the next breed of super hero. Felix Baumgartner.
